Day 13: October 27
Acceptance -The practice of embracing yourself and accepting your practice as it is today.
When we first start this practice of Sthira and Suka it can be challenging to find the balance of sweetness if we feel the tightness or constraint of a pose. Our minds can get stuck in the sensation. Our self-limiting beliefs can be so deep that we sometimes don’t get on the mat. Meaning if you feel that you are good at some poses or bad at some it can stop you from trying. It can also raise your spirits or lower them based on what you think about how you are doing in the poses.
To begin finding the flow and ease of the asana practice, begin to embrace yourself and accept where your practice is at today. It’s easy to compare our practice to everyone else’s in the room and that could either inspire or deflate us based on our beliefs. What is most important to know is that where you are at is where you are at. As Ryan Leier says “if you can touch your toes, big deal, if you can’t touch your toes, big deal”. There is no winning in yoga! What’s present is embracing, accepting, learning, understanding and showing up. Let’s start right where you’re at and go forward from there.
With love,
